There’s a question I hear quietly underneath many conversations with women entrepreneurs lately.
Not always directly.
But it’s there.
“I built the business…
so why doesn’t it feel the way I thought it would?”
These are smart women.
Capable women.
Women doing meaningful work.
From the outside, many look successful.
But privately?
Something feels off.
The business takes more energy than expected.
There’s less spaciousness than they imagined.
Less freedom.
Less enjoyment.
Less room to actually live their life.
And often there’s guilt attached to even admitting that.
Because they worked hard to build what they have.
But here’s what I think is happening:
Many women built their business around what they believed success was supposed to look like…
before asking themselves what they actually wanted their business to do for them.
That realization changes everything.
Because once you begin defining success based on fit instead of pressure…
new possibilities open.
You stop trying to impress people you don’t even want to become.
You stop building around constant obligation.
You start making decisions differently.
More intentionally.
More honestly.
More sustainably.
And perhaps most importantly…
you begin creating a business that supports your life instead of consuming it.
I don’t think women over 50 are becoming less ambitious.
I think many are becoming more discerning.
And honestly?
I think that’s wisdom.
