Let’s get right to it…

#1.  Acknowledge the importance of your uniqueness

We’ll start with a question – you know how much I love questions!

Why is it important for you to embrace your uniqueness, to dare to be different?

This is the first and most important step because understanding the benefits of being you is what will fuel you to acknowledge the value you have to offer to your clients….  the impact and influence that only you can share with them.

Here are some outcomes you’ll enjoy when you dare to share your uniqueness…

• When you’re being your true, authentic self, your energy flows easily and freely
• Standing out, being visible makes you interesting
• Uniqueness is rare and therefore, valuable
• When you recognize your value, you’ll be the solution your clients seek
• You inspire others with your confidence, courage and conviction
• You become an authority, a powerhouse, in your area of expertise

I understand that taking this first step may be tough – especially if you’ve been in “conforming” mode for some time.  Start by reminding yourself, every day, throughout the day, why you want to embrace your uniqueness, to be authentically you and in doing so, how you and your clients will benefit.

No one can be you better than you!! 

#2. Confront your fears.

There are so many fears that can interfere with expressing your unique self.  Here are a few – 

fear of having a unique opinion

fear of standing out

fear of rejection

fear of failure 

fear of missing out

Keep adding to this list – what fears are coming up for you?

When we dare to be different, we have to confront the fears that are rooted in conformity.  Tapping into the energy of your why and allowing that to propel you through the fear will give you the courage to step into your uniqueness and share it with the world… however big or small you want your world to be.  Fear is present in all of us and we don’t have to allow it to control us.  Courage isn’t the absence of fear.  Courage is experiencing fear, moving through it and stepping out into the sunlight.

#3. Accept that you can’t please everyone

If you want to embrace your uniqueness yet cling to the belief that you can please everyone, you’ll ultimately fail. The truth is, whether you stand out or fit in, you can never please everyone. And you need to accept that.

If you practice being your authentic self and someone doesn’t like it, that’s okay. They don’t have to like you.  They have their path and you have yours. That’s the beauty of it.

#4. Create your own definition of success.

For decades, that’s right, decades, I believed success was about money, prestige, the big house and fancy car.  Of course, those things are nice to have.  I finally awakened to the truth that success means something very different to me. 

I let go of how others defined success and created my own definition. In the process of becoming uniquely you, you have the opportunity to create your definition of success and start living “in” success every day.  

The realization that you’ve been on the wrong path is a powerful start in the right path.

Here’s some suggestions to get you started 

1. Write your personal values   
2. List your life desires without editing
3. Write what success looks like, feels like, in all aspects of your life
4. Review your answers to the above and write your definition.

    

#5. Accept and love yourself 

None of these steps come easy so I don’t expect telling you to accept and love who you are will instantly make you feel so.   

Know that you’re a work in progress. We all are! Whatever part of yourself you don’t like, doesn’t feel right, know that you’re not finished yet. Know that where you are in this journey is exactly where you need. Be bold and courageously accept your flaws and actually work on yourself unapologetically. No one is perfect. Never has been. Never will be.
