Recently, two dear friends and I were having a conversation where I was introduced to a new expression: “Remember the 30-second BMW”. Being a BMW driver, it captured my attention.

“What is the 30-second BMW?” I asked. There was some chuckling and a short pause before my friend said – “It means you have 30-seconds to bitch, moan and whine, and then it’s time to stop and move on.”

My immediate response was to laugh – what a great concept – just 30-seconds and move on. Then reality hit me – I realized that my BMW is usually longer than 30-seonds – a lot longer! If I could cram it into 30-seconds, just think how much faster I could move into something productive? Fulfilling? Rewarding? Rather than wallowing in the BMW? Next time, I’ll set a timer!

And how long is your BMW session? Do you need to think of alternative ways to handle issues that might be more beneficial for you and all involved? Can you condense down the emotional factor so that you can move quickly to what is most important?
